Respect@Women’s is the College program that responds to the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence.

Every student at Women’s is entitled to feel safe in the College environment.  The Women’s College and our Council are committed to safety as a priority.  The Women’s College is home for over 300 women and every student’s physical, psychological, cultural and social safety is at the forefront of everything we do.

Preventing and Responding to Gender-based Violence
at The Women’s College

Our Commitment

The Women’s College is committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive environment for all students, staff and visitors. Since 1889, we have been a centre of women’s leadership, and preventing gender-based violence is fundamental to our mission of empowering women.

Gender-based violence has no place at The Women’s College. We are taking active steps to prevent it, respond to it, and support anyone affected by it.

Our Prevention Work

We are actively working to prevent gender-based violence through:

  • Education and training for all students and staff on consent, respectful relationships, and bystander intervention
  • Our Whole-of-Organisation Prevention and Response Plan that guides our approach across all College operations
  • Student leadership programs that promote equality, respect and inclusion
  • Policy framework that clearly states gender-based violence is unacceptable
  • Regular community engagement to continuously improve our culture

Your options:

  • Make a disclosure – share what happened and access support without making a formal complaint
  • Make a formal report – request an investigation or specific action
  • Speak to someone confidentially – get advice about your options
  • Report anonymously – we can still take action to keep our community safe

You are always in control of what happens next. Getting support does not mean you have to make a report.

We acknowledge the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work.
