Resident & Academic Assistant positions 2022
Each year Women’s College employs a team of six or more Academic Assistants who are resident at College. The Academic Assistant (AA) program was introduced in 2014 to maximise the academic outcomes for College freshers. The AA team consists of senior students who are in the third year of their degree or above. AAs are a key part of the student leadership at the College, providing vital academic support to first year students (“freshers”) as they transition from secondary education to university study, and to students at academic risk. Each Academic Assistant will have responsibility for a small group of approximately 10-15 freshers, some of whom may be studying at universities other than the University of Sydney, for whom they will provide advice on study and organisational skills, academic care and intellectual leadership.
Academic Assistants report to the Vice Principal, Dr Olivia Murphy.
- An exemplary academic record with a minimum distinction average or equivalent
- Demonstrated leadership experience and effectiveness
- Demonstrated high level administrative and organisational skills
- Ability to deliver weekly tutorials in a subject area pertinent to the academic life of the College.
- A desire to assist younger students to understand and adjust to university life and academic work.

Senior Resident Assistants and Resident Assistants
Applications are now open for thirteen Resident Assistant positions at Women’s College in 2022. The Resident Assistant (RA) team provides pastoral support for resident and affiliate students at College. RAs are vital members of the student leadership team, assisting students in their wing groups with the general support needed to navigate college and university life. Applicants for the RA positions must have completed, or are commencing in 2022, their third year of University studies and are enrolled as full-time students at university. Successful RAs will be awarded a Professional Leadership scholarship to acknowledge their time and commitment to the College community in performing these roles.
In 2022 the College will require two Senior Resident Assistants (SRAs) to work alongside the RAs in supporting the students of the College. Senior RAs will work closely together over the academic year in assuming responsibility for out-of-hours care of the College and its students on a week-on, week-off basis. SRAs must be resident at College, but will not be expected to take responsibility for one particular wing of students. Candidates for the SRA roles must have completed at least four full years’ of full-time university study at the time of application, or be able to demonstrate comparable working experience. In exceptional circumstances a student entering her fourth year of study may be considered. A salary commensurate with the role will be discussed at interview.
