The Scholarship Program
From its inception, The Women's College has endeavoured to offer scholarships that extend the benefits of College to as wide a selection of the community as possible. Financial assistance through scholarships is provided to as many as seventy students each year and enables them to participate in the College's tradition of academic excellence, irrespective of financial circumstances. The College also awards prizes on the basis of academic merit and up to a third of its students receives these awards in any year.
The College is proud of the Scholarship Program it provides for residents. The Program consists of three components:
The Entrance Award for the first year College student who gains the highest university entrance score.
Scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate College students. Scholarships are awarded on basis of a number of criteria including academic merit and financial need.
Prizes for continuing College students who obtain a high distinction or a distinction average across their university subjects.
Recipients of College awards, scholarships and prizes are recognised at the Chancellor's Dinner - a special occasion held each year when the College community celebrates the academic achievements of its scholars.
The Entrance Award
The Grace Frazer Entrance Prize was established in 1892 by Mrs C B Fairfax in memory of her sister, Grace Frazer. It is awarded to the first year College student with the highest university entrance score. No application is necessary for this award.
Scholarships
The Women's College Scholarship Fund provides a range of scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate resident students. The scholarships vary in value and are generally paid as a residential bursary, in other words they reduce the amount of College fees payable. Scholarships are available for one year in the first instance with any renewal dependent on satisfactory academic progress and, where appropriate, financial need.
Candidates for all scholarships must complete the procedures for entrance into College and should also complete the separate Scholarship Application Form, available for download here. Continuing students resident at College are also encouraged to apply.
Scholarships are allocated at the beginning of the academic year only. Applications generally close on the last working day in November.
The College reserves the right to split a scholarship between two or more candidates and to make no offers if there are no appropriate candidates in particular contexts.
