2011 Instrumental Solo Section

What a night! Palladian Solo Instrumental was held in week 6 with Breeana Baxter and Elise Kelly taking the stage. Bree combined a piece by Bruch and a contemporary club song "Barbra Streisand" to produce a violin act that wowed the audience. It was truly a unique performance.

Elise took a more classical approach witha piece by Georges Enesco which showcased her technical skills on the flute. Despite the difficulty of the piece Elise made it look easy. All the colleges agreed that the calibre was exceptional with a variety of instruments including: violin, piano, flute, cello, drumkit, recorder and saxophones. Unfortunately we didn't place but Women's is ranked 3rd.

2011 Vocal Solo Section

Last night saw Women’s triumph as Emily Edmonds placed 1st with “Habanera” from Bizet’s opera “CARMEN”. She completely owned the stage with her presence and phenomenal voice. With a twinkle in her eye and cheeky interaction with the audience, she left us all wanting to hear more! It was not surprising that the judges were unanimous in awarding first place.

Our other representative, Alicia Johnson sang “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” by The Script and was accompanied by fellow Wizzie Rhiannon Oakhill. Alicia with the raw quality of her voice and her soulful rhythms had everyone in the audience grooving in their seats.

To think that this is only the second event at Palladian has the entire college (including the staff) excited about Wizzie talent and our chances at taking the Palladian Cup home.

2011 Oration Section

This year Women’s is anything but short of talent. Palladian 2011 has begun with a spectacular showcase of both inter-college and Wizzie talent. Oration was our first event with Emma Campbell and Marie-Ellen Karykis representing Women’s. Both girls spoke eloquently with their clever speeches covering history, politics, pop culture and of course comedy to present their ideas on “Anarchy”.
