Jean Pocock Scholarship
Profile: Hannah Shoesmith

I come from the small town of Mooney Mooney on the Hawkesbury River and attended Asquith Girls High School. I am currently undertaking my first year in a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology. My career prospects seem to change weekly, however I am currently looking towards something in neuroscience or nutrition.
Upon being informed I had been awarded the Jean Pocock scholarship, I was positively ecstatic. The scholarship reduces college fees by $2500 each semester, without which I would have been unable to attend college.
The Women’s College greatly nurtures academic, sporting and creative culture and I have already taken advantage of much that is on offer. It has been so great to live on campus so close to lectures as I can spend a lot more time focusing on study rather than spending what would have been around five hours a day commuting to and from university via public transport.
I am very thankful to have been given this opportunity and plan to make the most of it.

During the HSC I was always had the aim to study Pharmacy at Sydney University and stay at the Women’s College during my degree. However, I was aware that college accommodation could be a costly addition to the many expenses inherent in University education, like text books, union fees and of course socialising! Therefore I started looking into scholarships. The application form for scholarships offered by the Women’s College was quite simple and allowed me to apply for any of the scholarships I was eligible for with one form.
I was awarded the Jean Pocock Scholarship. This scholarship reduces my college fees by $2500 each semester and continues for four years. It is awarded to a student from a rural area. The Jean Pocock has been of great assistance to me as it has meant I can enjoy the many benefits of college life without placing financial burden on my family.
